Summary of GroomWest 2006
GROOM WEST 2006 was held at the Holiday Inn DIA Hotel , June 23 – 25, and the official count is in! Over 215 people registered for the 2006 GroomWest Trade Show hosted by the Colorado Professional Pet Groomers Association.
Grooming industry favorites, Marlene Romani and NDGAA’s Peggy Harris, stepped up to the plate and put on an awesome seminar and demonstrations. Let us not forget Colorado’s own Sally Terroux, Lia Whitmore and Teresa Lask pulling together and filling our Friday all day seminar. Judy Bremer Taxman came in with 2 outstanding classes “Extra Services/Money” and “How to Handle Difficult Clients,” giving us great ideas and keeping us well entertained to boot. I loved her Mat Kit. It has been many years since she was in Colorado and we loved having her back. Randy Lowe, with Precision Sharpening, also filled in with his informative “Mechanics of Scissors” presentation.
The Pet CPR class
went very well, with almost 30 people attending Friday evening. Christine Miller can really crank out those
Certified Pet CPR people! This was one
of biggest classes she has prepared for at this annual show.

Over $1600.00 in prize money was handed out to contestants. Were it not for our wonderful sponsors these competitions could not go on. Contest sponsors this year were Andis, Petco, Tomlyn and RPM. We thank them greatly for their financial support.
This year CPPGA was especially honored to start the Cameron Booth Scholarship. Cameron, son of Steve & Wendy Booth (NDGAA Certifier) was killed in a motorcycle accident last summer. Our association members watched Cameron grow up at previous GroomWest Trade shows. To honor his memory, and Steve & Wendy, this scholarship was initiated by our current board of directors as a $250.00 award. Steve and Wendy personally matched our $250.00, making it a $500.00 scholarship for the lucky winner, Justin, who is CPPGA member Wanda Porter’s son.
Our raffles, silent auction, 50/50 and BIATS matched up several fortunate folks with some very nice prizes thanks to our many generous vendors. Judy Bremer Taxman’s generous donations for our silent auction were very much appreciated and added a most memorable bidding campaign to the event. Oster donated a great number of items for giveaways, and to reiterate, we are truly thankful to them for their participation in our show.
Although the show had a hiccup, once again our own members, along with some very outstanding industry peers, pulled it together and the show went on!
